Governor Newsom Summit with Local Water Leaders Urges Increased Drought Response

On May 23, 2022 a group of urban water supply leaders from the largest agencies in the state gathered to discuss the increased conservation efforts needed amid the extreme drought facing California. Present to represent the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California as Chair of the Board of Directors was West Basin Director Gloria D. Gray, along with Metropolitan General Manager Adel Hagekhalil (pictured below). Together they emphasized the collaboration and bold steps required to meet conservation goals.

In a statement issued by Metropolitan, Hagekhalil said, “Metropolitan agrees with and supports the governor’s urgent call for increased water conservation and reduction in water consumption as we approach the hotter and drier summer months. We appreciate the governor’s collaborative approach in addressing statewide drought conditions by allowing water agencies to determine the water savings actions appropriate for the specific circumstances of their communities.”
