El Segundo Water Recycling Facility Experiencing Power Outage

November 28, 2023

CARSON, Calif. – The West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin) Edward C. Little Water Recycling Facility in El Segundo, Calif. is currently experiencing a power outage that significantly impacted recycled water production and delivery to its irrigation and industrial recycled water customers.

The power supply issue began the evening of Mon., Nov. 27, with the outage of a Southern California Edison (SCE) electrical substation that powers the District’s main water recycling facility.  No injuries were reported and structures are deemed safe. Presently, a limited back-up power supply is running to provide essential power to monitor the facility.

West Basin is coordinating repair and service restoration with SCE and other involved parties. SCE is anticipating power will be restored in approximately 24 hours (Wed., Nov. 29).  Some recycled water customers have been asked to use potable water for their essential recycled water needs. West Basin will provide impacted recycled water customers with further information as soon as it is available.
