West Basin Announces Support for Regional Brackish Feasibility Study

The Water Replenishment District of Southern California (WRD) intends to study the feasibility of implementing a Regional Brackish Water Reclamation Program in conjunction with several interested stakeholders that hold groundwater rights in the West Coast Basin to further pump, treat and beneficially use up to 20 million gallons per day of otherwise unusable groundwater in the saline plume.

WRD’s Regional Brackish Water Reclamation Study has the potential to lead into a full scale project to further enhance water reliability in West Basin’s service territory and the wider region. Participating in the feasibility study provides West Basin with an opportunity to potentially shape a project that involves District customer agencies and will likely require additional replenishment water in the West Coast Basin.
