West Basin Student Artists Featured in 2023 Water Is Life Art Calendar

Student artists from the West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin) service area were selected by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) for creating water conservation-themed artwork that will be featured in MWD’s Water is Life 2023 calendar. Three West Basin area student artists, alongside 34 regional student artists, were recognized at a virtual recognition ceremony on December 7, 2022.

The following West Basin area student artists are featured in the 2023 MWD Water is Life calendar:

  • Valentina Leguizamon, Culver City High School, Culver City
  • Chloe Fitzgerald, El Segundo Middle School, El Segundo
  • Kayla Ha, West High School /Seoul Arts Academy, Torrance

“Art is not only a form of self-expression, but it is also a wonderful tool for raising awareness of issues impacting our communities,” said Vice President and Board Member Scott Houston, who represents Division IV cities of Culver City and El Segundo. “West Basin congratulates our local and regional student artists for using their creativity to spotlight water conservation and the value of water.”

The annual art calendar is developed by MWD and its 26 member agencies, including West Basin.

Winning artwork from West Basin’s local art contest advances to MWD’s regional competition, with the opportunity to be featured in the agency’s region-wide calendar. Only a select number of student artwork are ultimately featured in the calendar, which is typically distributed to more than 13,000 recipients.

West Basin’s next Water is Life Student Art Contest will launch in January 2023. Winners from the 2023 contest will have the opportunity to be featured in MWD’s 2024 Water is Life calendar. For more information about the program, please visit www.westbasin.org/waterislife. Updated program guidelines will be available on the website in January.
