West Basin Student Artwork on Display in Metropolitan Water District 2021 Student Art Calendar

Three students from the West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin) service area were among 37 students to be recognized by Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) at the Water is Life Student Art Celebration on December 17. The students will have their artwork featured in MWD’s “Water is Life” 2021 Student Art calendar.

The following West Basin area students were selected from a competitive pool of student artists for this year’s MWD calendar:

  • Susan Cho, Chadwick School and Seoul Arts Academy
  • Alycen Kim, Palos Verdes High School and Seoul Arts Academy
  • Skylar Urfrig, Manhattan Beach Middle School
Water is Life - MWD Winners

The art contest is a collaborative water education program between West Basin and MWD. Each year, participating students create hand-drawn artwork that promotes the sustainability and protection of Earth’s limited water resources.

Winning artwork from West Basin’s local art contest advances to MWD’s regional competition, with the opportunity to be featured in the agency’s region-wide calendar. Only a select number of entries are ultimately featured in the calendar, which is typically distributed to more than 10,000 recipients.

West Basin’s 2021 Water is Life Student Art Contest will launch in January. Winners from next year’s contest will have the opportunity to be featured in MWD’s 2022 Water is Life calendar.
